The BCAE Gets Street Wise: A Lesson in Urban Culture

After a very long conversation where I tried to explain the importance of Banksy and Shepard Fairey to my very Bostonian father, I got to thinking that maybe this town could use a course in cool.

Last Saturday, the BCAE partnered with DigBoston to host “Street Wise,” a day-long workshop dedicated to street culture. Participants got schooled in everything from street art and graffiti, to b-boying (that’s breakdancing, son!) and parkour, from some of the most reputable street artists in the Hub, including: well known graffiti artist Rob Larsen; Lino Delgado, Floorlords Urban Dance Theater director and head choreographer; and members of New England Parkour.

Check out some footage from a New England Parkour class at the BCAE below!

If you couldn’t make it to “Street Wise,” sign-up for “Street Art,” Saturday, February 25, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, $32/members $27/materials $15 and “Boston Beats: The Art of Breakdancing,” Saturday, February 25, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, $30/members $25, in our January/February term.  Classes go live on our website Monday, November 21!
